Frequently asked questions
What is the book “Stories of the Prophets”?
“Stories of the Prophets” is a book that narrates the lives of various prophets (peace be upon them) in Islam. It typically starts from Prophet Adam and goes through prophets like Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and many others, ending with Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The book compiles these stories based on the Qur’an, Hadith, and classical Islamic sources. The version often read is derived from the famous work “Qisas al-Anbiya” by Ibn Kathir, a renowned Islamic scholar.
Why would someone read “Stories of the Prophets”?
There are many benefits to reading it. Firstly, it’s an engaging way to learn about the prophets whom we hear mentioned in the Qur’an. It provides context and details about their struggles, their people, and the miracles they performed by Allah’s permission. This helps us appreciate the lessons from their lives – like the patience of Job (Ayyub), the wisdom of Solomon (Sulaiman), or the steadfast faith of Abraham (Ibrahim). For both adults and children, these stories strengthen one’s Iman (faith) and provide moral lessons.
Is “Stories of the Prophets” suitable for children or more for adults?
The language and detail can vary by edition, but many editions are quite accessible to younger readers (pre-teens and up). That said, because it’s a comprehensive compilation, it might mention some mature themes (like the challenges certain prophets faced with their communities). Parents often read and then explain or simplify certain parts for younger kids. Additionally, there are adapted versions specifically for children with illustrations and simpler text. The standard “Stories of the Prophets” available at ilmStore is great for teenagers and adults, and can be read to younger children with a bit of parental simplification.
Are these stories authentic and based on Islamic teachings?
Yes, “Stories of the Prophets” is based primarily on the Qur’an and Hadith, supplemented with explanations from early Islamic historians and mufassirs (Qur’anic commentators) like Ibn Kathir. While some extra details come from historical narrations (like sayings of early scholars or Biblical lore known as Isra’iliyat), reputable versions clarify which parts are directly from Qur’an/Hadith. Overall, it sticks to what is taught in Islam about each prophet. It’s a trusted resource for learning the Islamic perspective on prophets also known in other traditions.
How is the book structured? Can I read it in parts?
The book is usually organized prophet by prophet, in chronological order. Each chapter or section is dedicated to one Prophet’s story. This makes it easy to read in parts — you could read one prophet’s story at a time. You don’t necessarily have to read cover to cover; you can jump to the story of a specific prophet you’re interested in. The chapters often start by setting the scene of that prophet’s time, then describe their main life events and messages, and conclude with the outcomes or lessons from their story.
